This summery will not help you to score in exam. But it can be used to understand the theme of the poem.

It takes much time to kill a tree,
Not a simple jab of the knife
Will do it.
you need a lot of time to kill a tree. It's not an easy job. A simple jab with a knife or axe of you cannot kill a tree. You have to work so much to kill a tree.(in the first line itself the poet satirize the human.)
It has grown
Slowly consuming the earth,
Rising out if it, feeding
Upon its crust, absorbing
Years of sunlight, air, water,
And out of its leprous hide
Sprouting leaves.
In the same way a mother feeds a baby,the earth feed a tree. The ' crust' (outer layer of earth) gives nutritions to the tree. The tree 'absorb' (soak up) sun light,air and water. It grows slowly and developes leaves from its skin.
So hack and chop
But this alone won’t do it
Not so much pain will do it.
you can 'hack' (cut into two) and 'chop' (cut further into smaller pieces). but it will not give pain to a tree so much.
The bleeding bark will heal
And from close to the ground
Will rise curled green twigs,
Miniature boughs
Which if unchecked will expand again
To former size.
If you hack the trunk or branches,you can see bleeding.(its colour is not red,but this is also a violence). If you go back from your job then,it will help the tree to grow again. It will be on the mend. If you hack the branches, there new 'twigs'(branches) will develop again. If you uncheck the tree is died, it will grow again and may expand to former size.(a life comes from death just like phoenix bird).

The root is to be pulled out
Out of the anchoring earth;
It is to be roped, tied,
And pulled out-snapped out
Or pulled out entirely,
Out from the earth-cave,
And the strength of the tree exposed,
The source, white and wet,
The most sensitive, hidden
For years inside the earth
'No' , Dont allow the tree to grow again. You have to kill it. So that you have to pulled out the roots of the tree from the 'anchoring tree'(hold the tree steady). If you cannot pull it by hands you can make use of rope. It will make your job easy. Then pull out the roots with a sudden shar sound from the earth cave(if roots of a tree is pulled out,there can we can say a cave). Thus the strength(roots) of a tree is exposed. The roots are the most sensitive part of a tree,it responses to air,sunlight and water. It suck up nutitions from the earth. Roots are always sucking up water so that is is wet and white. As long as tree consist,the roots are hidden(the invisible part of a tree is more strngthier that the visible part. It is not ease to pull out roots of a tree).
Then the matter
Of scorching and choking
In sun and air,
Browning, hardening,
Twisting, withering,
And then it is done.
Then the tree burn and chok in sun and air( it lies on the earth and recieving hotness of sun). It may brown,twist and dry up in the sun because it has no water or nutrition. If you do these all you can kill atree and may take rest. You will understan kiin is not an easy job.
this poem can be compared with human being. Let's say the 'root' is love. What would happen tous if love were removed from our lives? What if it were a love that had been growing for a long time? A few little “stabs or hacks” would not destroy that love, something drastic would have to be done, perhaps betrayal, and then the love would die because the trust, which is the root of the love, would be exposed, pulled out from its source.
